2.1366 SILVANA D.H. GERMAN ARMY MILITARY-ISSUED, SWISS 1940s

£540.00

An original Swiss-made Silvana military wristwatch supplied for German Army service during the 1940s. The stainless steel caseback carries the characteristic D.H. military issue marking and individual service number D 287425 H.

Deutsches Heer – “German Army”; this is the interpretation used by military-watch historian Konrad Knirim.
Dienstuhr Heer – “Army service watch”; also widely used by collectors.

This watch has clearly experienced many years of active use. Much of the original chrome plating has worn from the brass case, especially around the bezel and lugs. Lugs have been repaired (solid bars removed, spring bars installed). At the same time, the black dial has survived in remarkably good condition. Its warm gilt Arabic numerals, clear railway minute track and small-seconds register create a strong and authentic military appearance. The original radioactive luminous material has been removed and replaced with safe, non-radioactive lume. The replacement compound has been carefully aged to match the dial and the overall condition of the watch rather than appearing unnaturally new.

Silvana is a historic Swiss watch company whose name was registered in 1921. The company established its manufacture in Tramelan during the early 1920s and produced watches for both civilian and professional use.

Movement and Technical Notes

The watch is powered by the A. Schild AS 1130, a large and robust Swiss manual-winding movement with subsidiary seconds. The calibre was widely used in military watches and later became known among collectors as the “Wehrmachtswerk” because of its frequent appearance in German service watches of the period.
