About Hefik
Hefik Watch Co. was founded in Switzerland sometime after 1891 by Fritz Kundert and was registered in both La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, and Birmingham, UK. The company established strong ties with Britain, where Kundert sought new suppliers to continue selling his watches. Hefik timepieces were assembled in La Chaux-de-Fonds before being cased in Birmingham, a common practice to avoid high import duties on fully finished watches. Many Hefik watches featured 9-carat gold or gold-filled cases, often supplied by The Dennison Watch Case Company. The company primarily used pocket watch movements from Helvetia and possibly Cortébert Watch Co., later incorporating wristwatch movements from FHF and ETA. Hefik also registered the trademarks “Speedwell” and “Bird-in-Ring” and sold Zenith watches fitted with British-made cases.
In 1960, the Hefik Watch Co. name was re-registered in Biel, Switzerland. Fritz Kundert’s son, Herbert Fritz Kundert, was a member of the British Horological Institute and passed away in England in 1963. Following his death, the brand was acquired by Karl Antmann, the owner of Montres Antima SA, ensuring Hefik’s legacy continued in the watch industry.
