About Wittnauer
Albert Wittnauer, a skilled Swiss watchmaker, founded the A. Wittnauer Company in 1885 with a vision to create durable and affordable Swiss watches. Initially working under his uncle, a luxury watch importer, Wittnauer saw an opportunity to provide high-quality timepieces for explorers, navigators, and the U.S. Navy. His company quickly gained a reputation for reliability, contributing to aviation and military advancements.
After Albert’s passing in 1908, his sister Martha Wittnauer became the first female CEO in watchmaking, guiding the brand through global challenges. Over the years, Wittnauer watches were worn by pioneers and astronauts, while the company underwent multiple ownership changes. Acquired by Bulova in 2001, Wittnauer continues to be recognized for its Swiss craftsmanship and innovation.
