About Breitling

Breitling was founded in 1884 by Léon Breitling in St. Imier, Switzerland, with a focus on creating chronographs for science, sports, and industry. In 1892, the company moved to La Chaux-de-Fonds to the Montbrillant building, a name later used for several Breitling chronographs.

In 1915, Breitling introduced a wristwatch with a chronograph complication, featuring a push-piece at 2 o’clock for start, stop, and reset, an idea by Gaston Breitling. In 1923, the start/stop and reset functions were separated, allowing for timing of successive events without resetting. Willy Breitling later added a second push-piece at 4 o’clock for resetting, a design that became the standard for modern chronographs.

In 1967, Jack Heuer partnered with Breitling to develop the Calibre 11, one of the first self-winding chronograph movements, featured in the Heuer Monaco and Breitling Chrono-Matic.
