A small and elegant Eterna dress wristwatch from 1964, made in solid 9K yellow gold and preserved with its original long Eterna presentation box. The compact 19.5 mm case, simple two-hand layout and clean silver-tone dial give the watch a classic mid-1960s appearance.
The dial is signed ETERNA and SWISS, with applied gold baton hour markers and matching gold-tone hands. There is no seconds hand and no date, keeping the design particularly simple and well balanced. A high domed acrylic crystal completes the traditional dress-watch profile.
The solid gold case is reference 102.787, with the reference number engraved on the outside of the caseback. Inside, the caseback is signed ETERNA and carries British 9 / 375 gold hallmarks, the London date mark for 1964, and the EPW sponsor’s mark associated with Eterna watches supplied to the British market.
Inside is Eterna’s own calibre 1435U, a compact hand-wound movement designed for slim watches. The movement is signed ETERNA and numbered 5,044,768. Together with the dated London gold hallmarks, this makes the 1964 dating of the watch particularly clear.
The watch is accompanied by its original long Eterna presentation box, an attractive addition to a small solid-gold vintage Eterna of this period.
The Eterna 1435U is a small manual-winding caliber from the 1435 family. The 1435 base movement appeared around 1962; Ranfft cites 1962 as the start of production for the 1435K and classifies the 1435 as the 7¾”’ manual-winding movement of this family.
