2.1331 LONGINES (LEMANIA) L990 GOLD PLATED AUTOMATIC, SWISS 1977 (Copy)

£570.00

An original vintage Longines powered by the legendary ultra-thin L990 automatic—a truly unbeatable combination when paired with a beautifully preserved champagne dial. The watch keeps excellent time, the date changes correctly, and the automatic winding system works efficiently and quietly.

What makes this piece especially interesting is the movement: the Longines Calibre 990 family was introduced in 1977 and is widely regarded as Longines’ last in-house automatic era, famous for its technical sophistication and extremely slim profile.

Longines caliber series 99x and Lemania 88xx series

The L990 is celebrated for its ultra-thin construction (2.95 mm) and its twin mainspring barrels coupled in series, designed to deliver a steadier flow of torque and improved rate stability for an automatic this slim. The 990 architecture is celebrated for combining a remarkably slim profile with technical solutions uncommon in ultra-thin automatics – most notably double barrels coupled in series to support more stable running. After Longines discontinued the line, the design lived on under Nouvelle Lemania, appearing as the Lemania 8810 / 8815 family, later used by high-end makers (including Breguet).
