A classic skeleton pocket watch – the type that wears its mechanics on its face. Through the open centre you can clearly observe the entire “lecture” of a mechanical watch: how winding transmits power through the train, how the hands are set, and how the balance and escapement regulate time. It’s a brilliant piece for educational purposes, and also simply an enjoyable object to handle and study.
While Jean-Pierre pocket skeletons are still produced today, later examples on the market rely on Chinese movements. This one is different: the dial is clearly marked Swiss Made / Incabloc, and the watch is powered by a classic Swiss hand-wound ETA 2801 mechanism, partially skeletonised to showcase the key working components.
The watch comes in a richly engraved gold-tone (plated) hunter case with decorative floral work and a blank cartouche. Both covers open neatly via the crown action – pressing the crown releases the lid, as intended on this style of pocket watch.
On the front, the dial is a white chapter ring with bold Roman numerals, paired with elegant Louis XIV style hands. The open centre offers a clear view into the gear train and escapement area, giving the watch its “skeleton” character.
