About Lator
The Lator brand was first registered in 1951 by Gilbert Schaldenbrand Fils of Neuchâtel, Switzerland. Two years later, Gilbert Schaldenbrand, also associated with Eros Watch Co., merged his company with that of his son, Marius Schaldenbrand, to form Fabrique d’Horlogerie Florimont S.A. (Florimont Watch Limited) as Gilbert retired.
By 1966, Florimont sold the Lator and Latora brands to the watch wholesaler E. Gunzinger & Cie, also based in Neuchâtel. However, like many traditional Swiss watch companies, Gunzinger struggled during the Quartz Crisis of the 1970s and was eventually liquidated in 1983.
Though the brand ceased operations, Lator watches—especially their professional-grade dive models—remain highly collectible, reflecting the golden age of Swiss mechanical watchmaking.
