About Lanco

Lanco was one of the most famous brands to come out of the Swiss watchmaker, Langendorf Watch Company SA. The name ‘Lanco’ is an abbreviation of ‘Langendorf Watch Company’, and was launched as an alternative brand name in the 1950’s. It was briefly discontinued during the late 1960’s, but was revived again in 1971 until around 1980.

The brand became quickly successful following its launch, and soon was widely known for its high-quality workmanship and attention to detail. Indeed, Lanco watches are still considered to be of very high-quality, and can often be found today on the markets, being traded as vintage watches.

During the 1970’s, after the revival of Lanco, the brand decided to expand their line considerably. This heightened their popularity, especially as they started to produce digital watches. A number of Lanco watch models were much larger in size than was the norm for the time, which has made them quite desirable in today’s markets, and quite sought after.

Due to financial issues of the parent company, the Lanco brand name was sold in 1981, and new Lanco watches have been sold in South Africa by S. Bacher & Company since 1998, under a license from The Swatch Group.
