Key Features

This 1960’s INGERSOLL British diving watch is a rare find, with the ‘Great Britain’ signature on the dial.  It so happened that the traditional Ingersoll watch manufactory was using the cheapest low-grade movements at the time that this watch was made, and this is likely the reason for the modifications made to this particular watch – a previous owner replaced the movement with a higher grade Swiss automatic caliber, and a 17 jewelled version so that it would still correspond to the dial signature. As the movement is a replacement, it’s priced lower than it could be. We have serviced it with full disassembling, cleaning, oiling and adjusting, and it’s all included with 12-month guarantee. Everything is in great quality, the lume still glows very well.

About Ingersoll

The Ingersoll Watch Company, currently owned by Zeon Watches, was a British watch manufactory that started out as a small mail order business in New York City, founded by Robert Hawley Ingersoll in 1882. The first “Universal” model Ingersoll watches were introduced in 1892, and from there the company blossomed as a watch manufactory over the production of its previously popular products, such as rubber stamps.

Ingersoll’s British origins began in 1904, when the company opened a shop in London, producing cheap watches made by a British subsidiary – Ingersoll Ltd. This only continued up until the 1920’s, stopping due to the collapse of the American Parent company in the period of recession after the First World War. However, production in the UK did start up again in 1930, when the new owners of the American Ingersoll firm sold the British arm of the manufactory to its board of directors, making it a wholly British-owned enterprise. Business flourished after the end of the Second World War when Ingersoll Ltd, among a number of other manufactories, joined forces to become the Anglo-Celtic Company Ltd. In this partnership, Ingersoll produced a number different interesting models, including many character pocket watches, such as Betty Boop, Donald Duck. Later they also produced pocket watches featuring Marvel Comic characters, such as Captain Marvel.

Ingersoll Ltd are still a successful watch manufactory today, distributing timepieces in more than 50 countries.
