Key Features
Classical 1970’s dress watch with an eye catching dial, from the British Accurist brand. The classical 34 mm case is mirror-polished, gold-plated, and houses the simplistic yet attractive gold-tone dial. The short, gold numeral markers around the outside edge of the dial have a fashionable, thin black line running down the centre of each, perfectly matching the design of the minute and hour hands, which are joined by a long, elegant seconds hand. The minute markers are evenly interspersed with small, black seconds markers, which, considered with the rest of the dial as a whole, create a high-class, eye-catching aesthetic.
The gold shine of the dial on this timepiece contrasts beautifully with the snakeskin-style black leather strap. The whole watch exudes class, with its classical gold-plated case and simplistic dial – the numeral markers perfectly matching the hands in both colour and design. Although this watch is Swiss-made, Accurist was a highly popular brand in the UK from the 1960’s to the 1980’s, and this timepiece smoothly walks that line between simplicity and attention-grabbing that the brand was so well-known for during this period. In great condition and very well preserved, this watch is a pleasure to wear.
About Accurist
Accurist was founded in 1946 in London by Asher and Rebeca Loftus. They made watches that consisted entirely of Swiss components, which guaranteed consistent high-quality, and placed the company higher on the competitive watch market. The Accurist brand truly blossomed at around 1965 with their ‘Old England’ watch line, which aimed to introduce and promote the idea that watches could be a fashion accessory, and not merely a ‘once in a lifetime’ purchase. This movement was popularised by the likes of Twiggy and The Beatles, causing the brightly coloured and out-there designs of this new watch style to become a part of the London fashion at the time. The 1970’s was also a successful decade for Accurist, with the popularisation of quartz movements and digital watches, technologies that were often represented by the Accurist brand in the media – their digital quartz watch was chosen as the official watch for the Concorde aircraft pilots.
Up until the early 2000’s, Accurist was a highly popular and well-known brand, still creating good quality watches to this day. However, their heyday was undeniable from the 60’s through to the 80’s, and their classical, stylish watches from that period can still widely be found on the markets.
