Key Features
A handsome timepiece, this Lang & Co. 1940s manual has some military DNA in its design, refreshed in our workshop after a mirror finish polish on the stainless steel case body and reluming of the dial. There is a lovely balance in the design of the dial, complete with unusual green lumed Roman numerals and lumed syringe style hands, it seems to have picked up a lovely vanilla seed-like patina. At 31mm this watch wears small by today’s standards, but does not look or feel delicate. The case fits very comfortably against the wrist.
Lang & Co. are difficult to find information on, but it seems there’s some family connection with Gerd-Rüdiger Lang (b. 1943), a celebrated Swiss watchmaker who is regarded as an innovator in the field. He was the first watchmaker to design a display caseback for viewing the movement, and the first to include making the regulator time display viable for the wristwatch. After a storied career in the industry, he founded the company Chronoswiss in 1983, until it was sold in 2012. Nowadays, he has worked with other watchmakers developing military style reissue watches similar to this piece!
