2.1290 OMEGA SEAMASTER AUTOMATIC 2849 NO-DATE, SWISS 1962

£1,150.00

Early-generation vintage Seamasters in strong original condition are among the most collectible everyday Omegas of the period. This reference carries exactly the clean, balanced design language that made the Seamaster line so enduring: broad lugs, slim bezel, domed acrylic crystal, and a restrained dial layout with just enough warmth and detail to keep it far from sterile. For anyone who has looked at Omega’s modern re-editions, this is the appeal in its authentic form. OMEGA’s vintage database lists the CK 2849 as a 34 mm stainless-steel Seamaster from the 1956–1962 period.

This example is especially attractive thanks to its soft crème-tone dial, applied gilt numerals and indices with lume infill, and elegant dauphine hands. The no-date layout gives the watch an even cleaner, more symmetrical appearance than many comparable 1950s automatic dress-sport models. The signed Omega crown, embossed Seahorse caseback, and correct acrylic crystal complete the classic Seamaster character.

Inside is the respected Omega calibre 552 automatic movement, and the movement serial 19,350,907 places production in 1962. The reference stamped inside the caseback is 2849-14-SC. A high-quality genuine leather strap finishes the watch in a way that feels both period-correct and easy to wear every day.

Case and technical details

A particularly interesting detail on this reference is the patented Omega waterproofing system stamped inside the caseback: Patent 315164. The inside back is marked to fit the sealing washer into the back itself, referring to Omega’s case-construction method using a substantial gasket seated inside the caseback and compressed against the case body for improved water resistance. The Omega vintage model page for CK 2849 also identifies the case as a press-in stainless-steel case.
