A particularly valuable early Omega Seamaster Calendar in solid 14K gold, carrying all the best traits of the first-generation Seamasters: broad elegant lugs, slim round bezel, warm domed acrylic crystal, and that perfect mid-century balance between dress watch and everyday automatic. In essence, it is the gold sibling of the steel ref. 2849 we listed before – same excellent case architecture, same restrained dial design, but here executed in precious metal and with even more vintage presence on the wrist.
What makes this example especially charming is the dial. The soft crème surface has developed a natural, honest age patina, giving the watch a warmer and more individual character than a perfectly sterile example. Applied mirror-finished indices with luminous infill, dauphine hands with lume, and the classic magnified date window at 3 o’clock complete the unmistakable Seamaster Calendar look. The official Omega vintage page identifies the CK 2849 as a Seamaster Calendar from the 1956–1962 period.
The case is solid 14K gold with correct hallmarks, retaining visible natural age on the surface. Inside is the reliable Omega calibre 503 automatic, and movement serial 16,488,644 dates production to 1958, while the presentation engraving places this particular watch in 1960. The inside caseback is stamped 2849 SC and carries Omega’s well-known Patent 315164 waterproofing system.
A particularly interesting detail on this reference is the patented Omega waterproofing system stamped inside the caseback: Patent 315.164. The inside back is marked to fit the sealing washer into the back itself, referring to Omega’s case-construction method using a substantial gasket seated inside the caseback and compressed against the case body for improved water resistance. The Omega vintage model page for CK 2849 also identifies the case as a press-in case.
