Bold, architectural, and full of mid-century character, this Lonville Extra is a square vintage wristwatch with unusually strong wrist presence. The compact black dial is framed by a substantial chrome-plated case, giving the watch a rugged and confident appearance that feels heavier and sturdier than most watches of this style.
The watch is in very good vintage condition overall. The black dial retains excellent contrast, with clear gilt printing and strong visual depth. The chrome-plated case shows honest wear and age-related marks, consistent with use, which suit the robust character of the watch well. Inside is the Langendorf calibre 804, a 17-jewel manual-wind movement, and the watch is fitted with a handmade vintage military-style strap.
Lonville is associated with Langendorf, the same Swiss watchmaking group behind Lanco. Langendorf used Lonville in the U.S. market and later also used Lanco.
Langendorf Watch Company was one of the major names in Swiss industrial watchmaking. Langendorf was not simply a dial brand but a substantial movement manufacturer, producing ebauches, complete movements, and finished watches on a very large scale. The company also has an authentic military background, having supplied robust service and pilot-style military watches during the first half of the 20th century.
