Key Features
This Potens Automatic is a sturdy timepiece, about as thick as its automatic kin but still feels good on the wrist. Everything about this watch is thick, in fact. The crystal, brushed steel case, even the chunky indices. The earthy coloured dial has some characteristic tropicalisation, ageing that modern reissues of vintage watches wish they could emulate. Applied indices have a strip of orange running through them which we think pairs well with the new tan leather strap we’ve provided for it. The ETA 2738 movement powering it features a 47 hour power reserve and a quickset date feature, which immediately changes at midnight rather than slowly crawling in.
About Potens
Potens was founded in 1954, a family company that serviced watches and specialised in pocket watch conversions. As business grew, they moved into manufacturing their own parts and soon designed their own mechanical watches. The brand became recognized mostly due to professional diving models with extra water protection (for example – the Super Squale model, highly valuable and collectible).
Rather than being hindered by the advent of quartz watches, Potens embraced it, and to this day design both mechanical and quartz watches.
