About West End Watch Co.
In 1864, Alcide Constant Droz and Henry Perret established Droz and Perret, a watchmaking company in St. Imier, Switzerland. Over time, the company evolved through various name changes and registrations, amassing numerous trademarks.
Notably, in 1885, the company transitioned to Alcide Droz & Fils, specializing in waterproof watches and registering the iconic West End Watch trademark, featuring a distinctive eagle carrying a timepiece. In 1884, the company ventured into Bombay with Arnold Charpie, a joint endeavour that eventually led to the renaming of the Bombay firm to the West End Watch Co. Amidst rebranding efforts in 1887, including the introduction of the Berna trademark, the company solidified its position as the West End Watch Company.
The close collaboration with Longines further enhanced its reputation, with Longines supplying watches exclusively branded for West End. Renowned models like Sowar and Queen Anne became emblematic of Swiss precision and imperial elegance, contributing to the company’s success, particularly in India.
Innovative developments in waterproof cases and shock resistance systems in the 1930s propelled West End’s status as a pioneer in watchmaking technology. Today, West End remains a revered Swiss watch brand, cherished for its heritage and commitment to excellence, with its distinctive Decagonal casebacks continuing to pay homage to its illustrious past.
