Key Features

Rare asymmetrical case 300-metre professional diving watch by Squale. Squale is a top-grade diving watch case maker, they supplied cases to many professional traders of diving equipment. One can find a number of brands with the same Squale cases graded by size – this one is ‘MEDIUM’ 36 mm diameter. Thick bezel with bakelite/acrylic insert, thick crystal, thik caseback with thick rubber gasket. This watch passes all water resistance tests from the first attempt, just wear and go. Interesting very early quartz movement, they are not often alive and healthy like this one. It’s remarkable that it runs after 50+ years of age. Everyone appreciates professional diving vintage watches, but not many know the Squale name! The caseback is marked with two patent numbers, Brevet 503.305 and 40.252

About Squale

Charles von Büren began assembling watches under his name as early as 1948. In 1959, von Büren registered the Squale trademark in Neuchâtel, Switzerland.

During the 1960s and 1970s, Squale provided cases for a multitude of brands, including but not limited to: Altanus Genève, Arlon, Potens Prima, Prima Flic, Jean Perret Geneva, Ocean Diver / Blandford, Deman Watch, Carlson Tavernier Geneva, and Sinn. Cases designed for 500m water resistance with the crown located at the 4 o’clock position were sold to Airin, Dodane, Blancpain, Tag Heuer, Doxa, Zeno, and Auricoste. Squale also supplied the Folgore Parachute Brigade, part of the Italian Air Force, and the Italian Navy’s Diving Corps with timepieces during this period.

Squale entered the watch market as an independent entity in 1974. However, in 1989 the company halted their production of mechanical watches in order to focus on quartz timepieces due to thequartz crisis.” As a result, theSquale Rambo was created. Unfortunately, like many watch companies at the time, Squale began to fade from the international watch market.

After the retirement of Charles von Büren, the Maggi families and the former Italian distributors of von Büren watches partnered with one another and relaunched the brand in 2010 with its headquarters in Milan and watchmaking being done in Chiasso, Switzerland.
