The Tissot Seastar Seven, a great dress watch from the classic Seastar line. This 1960’s piece has a robust winding mechanism and a lovely green oxidised patina on the dial, giving it a personality of its own. We haven’t carried out any restoration work, but the gold plated case body and solid steel caseback are in excellent condition considering its 60+ years of age. The watch has been fully serviced in our workshop under 12 month warranty, and comes with a brand new 18mm brown leather strap.

Key Features

Another member of the highly successful Tissot Seastar line, this Seastar Seven sold just as well as the others. The watch was marketed as the “Seven” for the supposed seven qualities that set it apart from other brands in a similar price range. In our research, this claim could only be attributed to a single person on a watch forum, but after some digging we found a vintage promotional poster for the watch from France with these seven qualities. In our rough translation and paraphrasing, these qualities are listed as:

  • Unique Tissot calibre movement.
  • A flat and elegant case.
  • Better sealing.
  • Original luxury dial and hands.
  • A completely new presentation, in a polystyrene case, “unalterable and undeformable”
  • Worldwide sales and services.
  • An unbeatable price range.

In our search for these seven qualities, we were hoping to discover some wholly unique properties in the watch, but as you can see it’s a load of ad-man talk! Nevertheless, the watch was very successful, and everything they claim is true. The movement is impressively robust considering the size and thickness of the watch, boasting a 49 hour power reserve! We can’t vouch for the ‘undeformable’ nature of polystyrene, but this certainly is a very elegant, luxurious vintage timepiece.
