2.0240 Citizen Para Water, March 1970

£150.00 (incl. VAT)

Brilliant Cushion case designed Citizen akin to the likes of Panerai. A real first in Japanese horology, The Parawater was the result of Citizen’s research efforts, it’s the first completely water and dust resistant watch by a Japanese watchmaker, and it was so named due to the technical innovation of water resistance that was the highlight of the watch, with the combination of the word “para” meaning protection and “water”. According to serial number, the watch was manufactured in March, 1970.

Key Features

In 1959, Japanese company Citizen produced Japan’s first ever water-resistant wrist watch, dubbed the “Parawater”. Parawater was rated to a depth of 50 metres, although 50 meters might not seem very impressive in today’s watch world. It is important to note that during the unveiling of the Parawater, 50m was better than anything else that Japan had put out during that era. Citizen was so proud of this achievement that early Parawaters had their citizen logo replaced with “Parawater”.

This stainless steel watch features a beautiful cushion case design, a silver dial with unique applied indices, baton hands and a lollipop seconds hand. A date function can be found at the 3’o clock position. A hand wound Citizen movement powers this watch. With extremely wearable dimensions, this watch accommodates almost every wrist size and is perfect for everyday wear.
