Rare Max Mayer Geneve gold & enamel pocket watch, 1900’s

Rare & very fine pocket watch made by a small Geneva enamelers workshop Max Mayer.

The power of NoName

The watch is non-branded. The only signature we could find is “S.J.G” hallmark inside the case back cover. Why not to add signature to dial if you make such a huge job on enamel artwork? I have two versions.

Version 1. Vintage jewelry workshops were buying small quantities of movements from LeCoultre, L.Audemars and some other Swiss factories. Movements were being delivered fully assembled with dials. Not branded for versatility, just to distribute the movement stock to numerous smaller jewelry workshops.

Version 2. Some watches were being made on personal order for specific customer or buyer. They did not produce these high-end enamel watches just for selling it in shop’s counter.

Enjoy the photos… alive it’s even more impressive!

That’s why I love to work with pocket watches. Sometimes customer can bring you really a precious specimen. This watch was brought for consignment, sure it will find new owner quickly 🙂
